Skin Care Secrets of Women Who Don't Look Their Age - 13 Easy Ways to Have Smooth and Glowing Skin No Matter How Old You Are Now by Tanna SettleMakeRight PublishingIf you want to quickly and easily make fine lines, wrinkles and acne virtually disappear... even if skin care problems run in your family and you're in your upper 30's, 40's, 50's or 60's now... then this brand new book shows you how.
Here are some of the secrets inside:
- Why even many so-called "healthy" skin care products found in retail stores are murdering your appearance and adding more lines and wrinkles to your face.
- A "master list" of ingredients (found in skin care products you are probably using right now) that have proven to be extremely toxic.
- How to "slow" the signs of aging on your body and face.
- A substance found in almost every shampoo and sudsing cleanser that literally strips natural oils off your face leaving it dry and irritated. (It basically does to your skin what stripping tile floors of wax does to a floor!)
- How American cosmetics companies (especially the ones waving the "natural" cosmetics flag) get away with selling you products with ingredients that are banned in Canada and the EU.
- The "hidden" reason why so many women suffer from acne, skin rashes, inflammation and other skin problems. (HINT: This has nothing to do with the products you buy.)
- One thing you MUST do before going to bed if you want to prevent ugly blackheads or whiteheads.
- Exactly how much water you should drink for healthy, radiant skin.
- (Even "health nuts" get this wrong, which is why most of them suffer from the same unsightly skin problems you do!)
- How watching TV can make your skin problems feel worse.
- A special kind of doctor (NOT a dermatologist or surgeon) that can help eliminate many of your skin problems without causing you any pain or discomfort.
- What ancient Greeks used to naturally look (and feel) more youthful that anyone can do today (no matter where you live).
- A common skin care product ingredient found in many lotions (and even baby care products) that can cause black heads, big pores and trapped toxins. (If you see this ingredient on the bottle -- run!)
- The #1 cheapest and most simple way to begin anti-aging your face, body and skin.
- How to "rub away" wrinkles on your face. (Doing this will almost certainly make you look more relaxed and less wrinkled. It's not a quick fix, but it works like crazy!)
- How taking a nap can make your skin naturally look fresh.
- An ancient Chinese herb (that's dirt cheap to buy) that has been used for centuries to maintain youthful hair color, skin appearance and even help get rid of dull complexions, wrinkles, a sagging face, eye bags and dark circles.
- Michelle Obama's skin care secret. (Whether you like her or agree with her politics or not, there's no arguing she has beautiful skin -- here's one of her secrets.)
- How to "force" your body to produce its own anti-aging hormones.
- How to soften your skin with this secret ingredient found in steak tenderizer!
- And much, much more.

How Do You Kill 11 Million People?: Why the Truth Matters More Than You Think by Andy AndrewsThomas NelsonIt all comes down to the truth. Much like the character in one of his best-selling books, Andy Andrews is first and foremost a Noticer. Sometimes, all one needs is a little perspective and Andy has been providing that perspective to some of the world's most influential companies and organizations for the last 20 years. His ability to transform an individual by their own understanding and desire has made him loved by millions. Now, Andy Andrews brings his lessons and perspective into the important arena of government, citizenship, and what it means to completely uphold the truth. If the truth is what sets us free, what does it mean to live in a society where truth is absent? How do truth and lies in the past shape our destiny today? Through the lens of the Holocaust, best-selling author Andy Andrews examines the critical need for truth in our relationships, our communities, and our government. In this compact, nonpartisan book, Andrews urges readers to be "careful students" of the past, seeking accurate, factual accounts of events and decisions that illuminate choices we face now. By considering how the Nazi German regime was able to carry out over eleven million institutional killings between 1933 and 1945, Andrews advocates for an informed population that demands honesty and integrity from its leaders and from each other. The future of our country rests on the ability to separate the truth from lies, and Andrews compels each of us to examine our leaders' claims with a critical eye. His question- how do you kill eleven million people?-is provocative, but his warning is clear: "Only a clear understanding of the answer to this question and the awareness of an involved populace can prevent history from continuing to repeat itself as it already has, time and again." "They Say / I Say": The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing with Readings (Second Edition) by Gerald GraffW. W. Norton & CompanyThe best-selling text/reader on academic writing. They Say / I Say demystifies academic writing by identifying its key rhetorical moves, the most important of which is to summarize what others have said ("they say") to set up one's own argument ("I say"). The book also provides templates to help students make these key moves in their own writing. This version includes readings that demonstrate those moves—and provide stimulating conversations for them to enter. The Second Edition includes an anthology of 44 readings that will provoke students to think—and write—about five important issues, including two new ones: Is Higher Education Worth the Price? and Why Does It Matter Who Wins the Big Game? Another Grave Matter (The Volstead Manor Series) by Anita HigmanVolstead Manor has caught on fire, and the last of its murderous secrets flare hot enough to drive Bailey back to her sleuthing.
A villain, who remains shrouded in darkness until the end, threatens to destroy Bailey, and once again the mansion ignites with malevolent mischief. While she unearths a family secret from Prohibition that’s hidden deep within the cellar, she becomes entangled in a ticking-clock race to save her own life. Will the foul surprises never end at Volstead Manor, and will Bailey’s burning desire to marry Max go up in smoke? The Willpower Instinct: How Self-Control Works, Why It Matters, and What You Can Do To Get More of It by Kelly McGonigal Ph.D.AveryBased on Stanford University psychologist Kelly McGonigal's wildly popular course "The Science of Willpower," The Willpower Instinct is the first book to explain the new science of self-control and how it can be harnessed to improve our health, happiness, and productivity.
Informed by the latest research and combining cutting-edge insights from psychology, economics, neuroscience, and medicine, The Willpower Instinct explains exactly what willpower is, how it works, and why it matters. For example, readers will learn:
- Willpower is a mind-body response, not a virtue. It is a biological function that can be improved through mindfulness, exercise, nutrition, and sleep.
- Willpower is not an unlimited resource. Too much self-control can actually be bad for your health.
- Temptation and stress hijack the brain's systems of self-control, but the brain can be trained for greater willpower
- Guilt and shame over your setbacks lead to giving in again, but self-forgiveness and self-compassion boost self-control.
- Giving up control is sometimes the only way to gain self-control.
- Willpower failures are contagious--you can catch the desire to overspend or overeat from your friends--but you can also catch self-control from the right role models.
In the groundbreaking tradition of Getting Things Done, The Willpower Instinct combines life-changing prescriptive advice and complementary exercises to help readers with goals ranging from losing weight to more patient parenting, less procrastination, better health, and greater productivity at work. Amazon Exclusive: A Conversation Between Kristin Hannah and Emily Giffin Emily Giffin (left) is the author of five New York Times bestselling novels, including Something Borrowed, which has been adapted as a major motion picture that will be in theaters in summer 2011. A graduate of Wake Forest University and the University of Virginia School of Law, she lives in Atlanta with her family. Kristin Hannah (right) is the New York Times bestselling author of eighteen novels, including Night Road. She is a former lawyer turned writer and the mother of one son. She and her husband live in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. Kristin Hannah: Well, first, I have to say, Emily, that I am just the tiniest bit irritated with you. When I got the call to do this interview, I was thrilled, to say the least. It came at a really busy time for me--right after the holidays and we all know how crazy that is--and my work in progress was giving me fits. Then I picked up Heart of the Matter, and lost myself. No more writing, no more cooking, no getting my hair done or reading my email. Once I started the story I literally couldn't put it down. Brava, girlfriend, I say. Your characters are so real and compelling, and they always say exactly the right thing. With so much honest emotion, I just have to ask how much of your work comes from your own life? Emily Giffin: It never fails to thrill me when someone responds to one of my novels--especially when it's another writer. Writers understand the alchemy involved in making up something from nothing. And I just finished your book, Night Road, and I found it so emotional, so moving, and so terrifying—especially since I have three young children who will someday be teenagers. In terms of how much does my work come from my own life, I would say that I'm absolutely inspired by people, places, conversations, relationships, and issues that I observe, and that the "what if" part of my novel is very much inspired by these things in my life. But the details of my plots and the specifics of my characters come from my own head. How about you, Kristin? I'll ask you the million-dollar question that every author gets asked: where do you get your ideas? Kristin: Ah, the idea question. I don't want to sound coy, but the truth is, I don't quite know. It's the most magical part of the process for me. I'm a pretty analytical gal, and I approach writing in the same just-the-facts-ma'am way I approach most things. I need to find an issue that engages me on an intellectual level, and then I need to marry that curiosity with a kind of passion. I need to feel genuinely passionate about each story before I ever write a word, and I have to actually have something to say. It takes me at least a year to research and write a novel, and so I have to really adore each part of it—the characters, setting, story. Most of all, it has to make me feel something genuine. That's really the most important component. Usually it begins with a single "what if" question—what if you discovered your mother had a whole secret life about which you knew nothing (Winter Garden) or what if your husband were accused of a crime you believed he hadn't committed (True Colors)—and then I write and re-write until the characters seem as real to me as old friends. Kristin: I'm amazed by how much we have in common. We're both moms, both lawyers, both lived in London for a time. You're like a younger, cooler version of me. How did you make the transition from lawyer to writer, and do you think you'll ever practice law again? Emily: I would hardly say I'm cooler than you, Kristin! I hear you live in Hawaii part time! What is cooler than that? I made the transition from lawyer to writer because I was so miserable being a lawyer that I needed some escape from the day-to-day of it. And inventing stories was that escape. I can say, without hesitation, that I will never practice law again. Would you? What kind of law did you practice, and for how long? What did you find appealing (or discouraging) about law? Did you find that it gave you fodder for any of your novels? Kristin: Honestly, I have met very few lawyers who don't say that what they really want to do is write. Like you, I can say with certainty that I will never practice law again. Not that anyone would want me to. But I still keep my Bar membership up…just in case this whole writing thing doesn't work out. And yes, in the past few years, I have finally begun to put some of that law school education to work for me. I find that I'm really enjoying adding legal issues to my work. Of course, I have to talk to real lawyers to make sure I'm getting it right... Read more of the conversation between Emily Giffin and Kristin Hannah

We attempt or avoid difficult conversations every day-whether dealing with an underperforming employee, disagreeing with a spouse, or negotiating with a client. From the Harvard Negotiation Project, the organization that brought you Getting to Yes, Difficult Conversations provides a step-by-step approach to having those tough conversations with less stress and more success. you'll learn how to:
• Decipher the underlying structure of every difficult conversation • Start a conversation without defensiveness • Listen for the meaning of what is not said • Stay balanced in the face of attacks and accusations • Move from emotion to productive problem solving We've all been there: We know we must confront a coworker, store clerk, or friend about some especially sticky situation--and we know the encounter will be uncomfortable. So we repeatedly mull it over until we can no longer put it off, and then finally stumble through the confrontation. Difficult Conversations, by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen, offers advice for handling these unpleasant exchanges in a manner that accomplishes their objective and diminishes the possibility that anyone will be needlessly hurt. The authors, associated with Harvard Law School and the Harvard Project on Negotiation, show how such dialogues actually comprise three separate components: the "what happened" conversation (verbalizing what we believe really was said and done), the "feelings" conversation (communicating and acknowledging each party's emotional impact), and the "identity" conversation (expressing the situation's underlying personal meaning). The explanations and suggested improvements are, admittedly, somewhat complicated. And they certainly don't guarantee positive results. But if you honestly are interested in elevating your communication skills, this book will walk you through both mistakes and remedies in a way that will boost your confidence when such unavoidable clashes arise. --Howard Rothman
